SDSU COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
Summer of 2019 through January 2020, I worked as the Graphic Design Student Assistant for SDSU's College of Engineering. I designed various print materials including brochures, flyers, business cards, informational cards, and informational packets, as well as updating various aspects of the College of Engineering website. Using clean and organized layouts, as well as consistent colors and typefaces, I created contemporary and clean designs that reflect not only SDSU's Engineering department, but SDSU as well.
Typefaces and Colors
The colors used for most of the SDSU College of Engineering materials were based on the colors stated in SDSU Graphic Standards Manual. As for the typefaces, I used a combination of Franklin Gothic Book (which was used in previous COE projects from past years) and Century Gothic to give projects a more contemporary feel.
New Faculty "Brochure"
This semester, SDSU's College of Engineering welcomed 7 new faculty members from various parts of the world. I was challenged with creating a flyer with information about each new faculty member.
FemineerĀ® Information Cards
The FemineerĀ® Program is a group that originated at Cal Poly Pomona. The group hosts events at the participating universities to encourage female middle school and high school students to join the STEM field. SDSU's FemineerĀ® Program directors approached me about creating two informational cards to promote the program; A longer, more detailed version and a smaller, more condensed version.
Information Brochure
In the Dean's Office of the College of Engineering, students can find these brochures, which contain information regarding the different departments, clubs, events, and other associated programs within the College of Engineering. I was tasked with updating the brochure this semester.
Graduate Program and Reducing Student Impaction Informational Cards
One of the projects that I worked on were small informational cards to help promote the Engineering Graduate Program. These cards contain information about the different graduate departments and the professors whom students can contact regarding the programs.
Another project that I worked on this semester were informational cards regarding student impaction in the Engineering college. These are meant to be cards that students can keep with them and quickly reference to know which classes they must take in order to move from pre-major to major. The cards also include the retention policy to help inspire students to finish their classes on time in order to not be dropped from the major.
Graduate Program Flyers
I created a series of flyers to promote the Engineering Graduate Programs.
Spring 2020 Design Day: Save the Date
During the Spring semester, the College of Engineering puts on an event for the graduating seniors to present their final group projects. To promote this event, I created a Save the Date flyer. For the theme, I created a blueprint-style illustration of the Engineering and Interdisciplinary Studies building. Along with this illustration, I also included a brief description of what Design Day is, as well as some photos from this year's Design Day event.
2019 Holiday Card
For the College of Engineering Holiday Card, I wanted to create a design that represented the 6 departments within SDSU's Engineering College; Aerospace, Civil, Construction, Environmental, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering.
Website
I frequently made changes to various pages on the College of Engineering website including the News Page, Research Archives, Home Page and Alumni Advisory Board. Changes and additions often included photos, stories, creation of new webpages and linking pages.
